WOODTHORPE WORKSHOP
This web site is a place holder and development area for sites undertaken mostly on a voluntary basis in support of community sustainability and information.
One or two examples of jobs done for friends arise from time to time. The main purpose is to “keep it simple”. We focus on accessibility and an understanding that most people want to find information that flows, is easily read, comes on-screen quickly, and is informative.
Examples include:
1. The Physiotherapy Centre, Sittingbourne that was developed by another web-authoring company in the first place and taken over in 2009, recoded and updated.
2. Dadmans, Lynsted. A country-house bed and breakfast of exceptional quality.
3. Lynsted Society Website. Where it all started as an extension to a hobby interest of one of the Committee members.
4. Lynsted Community Website. A site on where any local organisation can register pages and advertise events. Set up to meet widespread interest but lack of capacity/skills or uncertainty about the value of the www. This includes sub-sites (with their own ’look and feel’) for the traditional and seasonal Recipes that feature in our printed Parish newsletter as well as Pew News. Our Annual Village Fete web-pages change their livery each year to reflect the “theme” we have chosen.
5. Lynsted with Kingsdown Parish Council. In 2004 and on a voluntary basis, we set up a simple web site structure to help the PC Chairman at that time, Tom English, to see if there was any value in supporting their own web site. After several changes in members of the PC, a lack of interest in maintaining current information led us to close this web site in 2008/9. With the latest membership, we advised the PC to look at using the excellent County Council system for Parish Councils that allows members to update content directly (CMS) and renders some very good web sites in the county. The new website is evolving well and looking good. The “lkpc” domain acts as a placeholder with contact details only until it lapses.
